The Shortlist

I didn't quite get through the whole of the longlist before the Orange Shortlist was announced (!) but I obviously chose my reading fairly well. The following six books have been shortlisted for the prize:

The Observations by Jane Harris

Digging to America by Anne Tyler

A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers by Xiaolu Guo

The Inheritance of Loss by Kiran Desai

Arlington Park by Rachel Cusk

Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

I might have to give Arlington Park a more considered read before the prize is announced, and re-read The Inheritance of Loss.

Debate on the prize is already alive and kicking. A Guardian CIF blog invites readers to discuss which books from the shortlist they suspect will win, though the responses are focusing on whether a prize for women writers is sexist. I've commented there (Accaber). Slightly more friendly is the discussion over on Palimpsest.
