I wish you could see a cover for this, because it's a Persephone edition. Persephone publish lost writing, mainly from the early 20th century (I think), mainly by women (with this novel being an obvious exception), celebrating domesticity and being unashamedly middlebrow. Persephone books are gorgeous - uniform dove-grey covers, with a creamy inset featuring the title and their icon, an image of Perspephone from a Greek amphora, being the only adornments.
